Yuma Kagiyama Facts

  1. Yuma had started skating at the age of 5 and has mostly been coached by his father Masakazu Kagiyama, a former international-level figure skater who had stood 13th at the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics and 12th at the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics.
  2. At the national level, Yuma has won the ‘Bronze’ medal at the Japan Figure Skating Championships for 3 years in a row (2019–20, 2020–21, and 2021–22). He had also clinched the ‘Gold’ medal at the 2019–20 Japan Junior Figure Skating Championships.

  4. Also at the 2019 ISU JGP in France, his quadruple toe loop in the ‘free skate’ portion of the event had set the junior record for the highest valued single jump. It was later surpassed by Daniel Grassl’s quadruple lutz at 2019 JGP Italy.
  5. At the 2019 ISU JGP in Poland, he had set the junior-level men’s record in the ‘free skating’ score category (160.63 points). This record too was surpassed by Daniil Samsonov at the same event.
  6. A habit/ritual that he follows is that he always puts on his left skate first.
