Rajvardhan Hangargekar Facts

  1. In the opening match of the 2021 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup, against the United Arab Emirates, Rajvardhan had produced a stellar bowling spell of 3/24 in 9 overs to limit the hosts to just 128 runs all out in 34.3 overs, helping India start the tournament with a massive 154-run victory.
  2. In the next game, against arch-rivals Pakistan, he had showcased his skills with the bat. He had come to the crease when India’s score was a precarious 202/8 in 44.5 overs. He smote 33 runs off just 20 balls including 5 fours and a six to lift India to a competitive total of 237 runs. That score had kept India in the game until the last ball off the final over of the match when Pakistan had scraped through to a narrow 2-wicket defeat. This was India’s only defeat in the 11 matches that they played across the 2021 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup and the 2024 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
  3. In the semi-final of the tournament, against Bangladesh, he had put in another impactful all-round performance, first scoring 16 runs off just 7 balls (including 2 sixes) to help India push to a competitive total of 243 runs. He had then recorded figures of 2/36 in 8 overs to help limit Bangladesh to just 140 runs.
  4. In India’s 2nd group stage match of the 2024 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, against Ireland, he had hammered 39 runs off just 17 balls (including 5 sixes). He had struck 6, 6, 6, and 4 off the last 4 balls of India’s innings to take the team’s score from 285/5 to 307/5. He had then recorded stingy figures of 1/17 in 7 overs to help the team to a massive 174-run win.
  5. In the next game, India’s final group stage match, against Uganda, he did not get to bat as India racked up a score of 405/5 in 50 overs, defeating Uganda by 326 runs. This was the second-biggest victory margin in the history of Youth ODIs. He had a minor role to play with the ball though, picking up 2/8 in just 3 overs as Uganda slumped to 79 runs all out in less than 20 overs.
  6. In the semi-final of the tournament, against Australia, he had bowled a delivery that had been clocked at 141.7 kph, eclipsing his previous best of 139.3 kph. Speeds in this range are considered decently quick at the senior international level in men’s cricket but are a rarity at the under-19 tier.
