While wearing the freshest styles is regularly emphasized in the Splatoon games, aesthetics aren’t really as important as the abilities your threads impart upon you. You know what’s fresher than looking fresh? Winning matches. If you want the best chance of that, you’re gonna need to get some Super Sea Snails together. Here’s how to earn and use Super Sea Snails in Splatoon 3.

How to Earn and Use Super Sea Snails in Splatoon 3

Super Sea Snails are a special currency, separate from your basic Cash. If you played Splatoon 2, this system will be familiar to you, but if you’re a newcomer, then pay attention. Super Sea Snails are used to raise your gear’s Star Power, adding additional ability slots, as well as re-roll the slots you already have. You’ll need Snails if you want to max out the slots on a piece of gear, as well as optimize its abilities.

Super Sea Snails are given out as rewards for participating in Splatfests. The more Splatfest EXP you accrue, raising your Splatfest title in the process, the more Super Sea Snails you can redeem after the Splatfest ends. You’ll also get more Super Sea Snails if you’re on the team that ultimately wins the Splatfest. You’ll still get Snails if your team doesn’t win, just not as many. After a Splatfest concludes, you can redeem your Snails from the booth in Splatsville.

Once you’ve got your Super Sea Snails, go talk to Murch in front of the Lobby entrance. He’ll only talk to you once you’re at least level 4, like the other shopkeepers. In exchange for Super Sea Snails, Murch can raise the Star Power on any piece of gear, though it may cost more Snails depending on the brand of the gear. When you raise a Gear piece’s Star Power, not only will you unlock one of its three sub-ability slots, but your gear will receive boosted experience after a match.

Additionally, you can pay Murch to re-roll all of the abilities in a Gear piece’s sub-ability slots. This process is completely random, so you might not get the abilities you’re looking for. On the bright side, you’ll receive ability chunks from the scrubbed abilities, which you can also redeem with Murch to change abilities directly.

Splatfests only occur every once in a while, so make sure to spend your Super Sea Snails wisely! Either use them to perfectly optimize a piece of gear, or to turn a useless-yet-stylish piece of gear into something worthwhile.
