Who Is Hercules In Thor Love And Thunder? Who Is Playing Hercules In Thor Love And Thunder?

Who Is Hercules In Thor Love And Thunder?

You may be familiar with Hercules, the ancient Greek legendary hero who has inspired multiple movie adaptations over the years, including a Disney picture, but you may not be aware that a version of the character has always been in the Marvel Universe. In reality, Hercules is frequently mentioned in the source material of Marvel Comics, with Marvel 101 identifying him as one of the few persons who  “can take a hit from Thor and remain standing to hit back”.

As a result, Hercules’ long-awaited debut here may cause viewers to reconsider who the most powerful Marvel character is – if you’re anxious to discover more, keep reading for your complete briefing. Marvel’s incarnation 0f Hercules, like Thor, is influenced by Greek mythology, therefore there are parallels between the character’s historical beginnings and his comic book version.

He is the son of the Olympian deity Zeus (played by Russell Crowe in the MCU) and mortal Alcmena, making him a demigod capable of immense power and endless life. After remaining hidden for hundreds of years, Hercules emerged from the shadows in the twentieth century to fight for the Allies in World War II. Because he is one of the few beings in the Marvel Universe with equal strength, he was first portrayed as a competitor to Thor.

However, the two quickly became friends, with Hercules appearing as a supporting character in multiple Thor stories as well as a member of the superteams The Avengers, The Defenders, and The Champions, among others. In the comics, Hercules can equal the Incredible Hulk’s strength, which inspired him to interfere during the World War Hulk storyline, when Bruce Banner’s enraged alter-ego was causing devastation in New York City. Following that huge incident, Hercules forged an odd alliance with juvenile genius Amadeus Cho (whose mother, Dr Helen Cho, was played by Claudia Kim in the 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron – it’s all linked).

Who Is Playing Hercules In Thor Love And Thunder?

Brett Goldstein has been in the entertainment industry for almost a decade, with credits like Derek, Drifters, Uncle, and Doctor Who, but his career took off when he joined the cast of the Apple TV+ sitcom Ted Lasso. He portrays recently retired player Roy Kent, who is known for his nasty language and fierce temper, which hides a gold heart beneath.

Goldstein’s portrayal in the series was a fan and reviewer favorite, garnering him an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series at last year’s presentation. As Ted Lasso is set to finish after its third season, Goldstein will have more time on his hands, which might lead to significant MCU appearances.

When Would Hercules Appear Next In The MCU?

Given Hercules’ significant comic book affiliation with the God of Thunder and his introduction by Taika Waititi, the most plausible response is in the as-yet-unconfirmed Thor 5. Waititi said to Uproxx that producer Kevin Feige was the one who hired Ted Lasso star Goldstein as Hercules.

“Kevin really wanted him to do it, and yeah, Brett’s amazing. He’s great,” the director told the publication. Waititi made it very clear that he is not sure where or when Hercules will be seen next. “And I don’t know if that’s to do with Thor, or if it’s to do with how that will develop,” he added. “Because, obviously, Hercules, there’s a character from the books as well. And so, yeah, this will be interesting to see because Kevin, he’s obviously the mastermind of all of these threads and how they’ll tie up and how they meet, mix and match. So I’m curious to find out myself.” Given that Marvel Studios is presently churning out Disney Plus episodes left and right, it may be an option if they want to establish the character as a prominent part in the future.

We may learn more later this month, as Marvel CEO Kevin Feige already promised details about the studio’s future plans during this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Perhaps Hercules will even have his own solo film on the road.
