Two fighters to represent India in the latest ‘Road To UFC’ tournament

UFC has announced the name of all the participant from the Asian continent, who will compete for a contract in the company at Road to UFC tournament

MMA in India has been growing ploddingly, but steadily. With the emergence of new facilities that train people in the mixed rules bracket, UFC gyms in India, and growing interest in the sport, it is but a matter of time before a contender emerges from the Indian soil. [Source – MMA India]

The opening rounds will take place across two days, on June 9th and June 10th, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium ahead of UFC 275: TEIXEIRA vs PROCHAZKA, UFC’s first Pay-Per-View event in Southeast Asia on June 12. The tournament is a one of its kind initiative that allows fighters from lesser-known demographics to compete at the grand stage with a UFC contract.

It is obvious that India has a long way to go until it emerges as a powerhouse like Brazil, or USA. But it can sure take some notes from the Australian MMA landscape and build from there. The inclusion of Anshul Jubli and Pawan Maan Singh, is a ray of hope for MMA fans in India who follow the sport diligently. Eight mixed martial arts athletes will compete in each of four men’s weight classes: flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight and lightweight. Here are the participants:

The opening round of ROAD TO UFC on June 9th and June 10th will be from 12pm to 5:30pm IST on both days.

Where do Anshul Jubli and Pawan Maan Singh train?

Anshul Jubli has spent time at the famed Tiger Muay Thai Gym, which has produced some of the greatest talents in the game. Former bantamweight champion Petr Yan trains extensively at the gym, and spends almost his entire camp at the elusive gym. Amongst fighters who have spent time training there is middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski, and upcoming Chechen star Khamzat Chimaev. Jubli has also spent some time training at the AKA gym in Thailand, a franchise that has produced champions like Daniel Cormier, Cain Velasquez, Luke Rockhold, and Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Pawan Singh Maan is a pro-MMA fighter who is on a three-fight win streak. He has been affiliated with Black House Fight Club, and is 5 feet 7 inches tall. He has also competed in several boxing bouts. He is a sharp fighter with fluid movements, and a lion heart will to fight. He has also been the SFL Light & Welterweight Champion, Captain of SBL Delhi Gladiators, and MFN welterweight champion.
