Early Life:

Kali Uchis was born on the 17th of July 1994 in Alexandria, Virginia. Her real name is Karly-Marina Loaiza, better known by her stage name “Kali Uchis” which was given by her father. She spent most of her youth in Colombia. In the early 1980s, her father first met Kali’s mother, and later they moved from Pereira, Colombia to the United States in the 1990s. Her mother is from Virginia and had children from her previous relationship.

Kali attended T. C. Williams High School and while studying there, her father returned to Colombia along with Kali to take care of his mother. Kali started attending elementary school in Colombia and then in third grade, she was in the United States. Kali and her father went back to Colombia when she was studying in high school. During high school, she began learning saxophone and piano.

Before completing her high school graduation from the T. C. Williams High School, she entered a jazz band. During in-school, Kali was more interested in making experimental short films in the photo lab other than in education, so she often skipped classes. In 2014 she was featured on Snoop Dogg single On Edge, which was from his mixtape, That’s My Work 3. 

In February 2015, she dropped her debut EP titled “Por Vida, which was released after the three years of her first project. In 2018, she announced her first album Isolation and performed on The Tonight Show. On the 6th of April, Uchis finally released her debut studio album Isolation for which she received worldwide recognition.
