If you’re seeing the notification that text chat has been disabled in Destiny 2, you’re certainly not the only one. All text chat has been disabled for Destiny 2 across all platforms, leaving most players very confused. Here’s why text chat is currently not working for Destiny 2.
Destiny 2 Text Chat Disabled
Turns out this one can be attributed to players looking to ruin others’ fun. Over the weekend, Destiny 2 players started to notice frequent crashes with the attached Weasel error code. It was soon discovered that that text chat could be exploited to crash others’ games using a specific bit of text. On June 30, Bungie issued the below tweet and fully disabled the function to avoid this exploit.
Why Was Destiny 2 Chat Disabled?
Seeing as this exploit could be dropped to anyone and immediately crash the game, this exploit is especially nasty. Seeing as there’s currently no other way to cut the exploit, Bungie simply disabled text chat altogether.
This video, uploaded to Twitter by user @ritzzcar, shows a bit of how simple this exploit is for anyone to use. Considering this, Bungie really didn’t have any other choice.
