Sebastian Baez is currently ranked no.37 in the ATP singles rankings – his highest ever career ranking. Baez achieved his highest ever ranking last week on May 2. Báez has won one ATP and six ATP Challenger singles titles in one year, a historic record, 5 ITF titles, and 1 ITF doubles title to date.

Báez made his ATP debut at the 2021 Chile Open where he lost to 2019 Junior French Open champion Holger Vitus Nødskov Rune in straight sets. He earned his first tour-level win at the 2021 Hamburg European Open, where he defeated Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the first round.

The 21-year-old became the youngest player in history to claim five ATP Challenger Tour titles in a season, lifting the trophy in Concepcion. He reached the top 100 for the first time in his career at World No. 97 in the ATP year-end rankings on 22 November 2021 after winning his sixth Challenger in Campinas, Brazil.

Sebastian Baez was born in Argentina’s capital Buenos Aires on 28th December 2000.

2. Dominated Junior circuit –

Baez was consistently strong on the ITF junior circuit, eventually topping the rankings in March 2018 after winning that year’s Porto Alegre Junior Championships in Brazil as a 17-year-old. The Argentine played in seven junior Slams across 2017 and 2018, making two appearances at each Roland Garros, Wimbledon, and the US Open.

3. Great success in Challenger series –

Baez led the Challenger Tour in terms of singles finals reached with nine and was joint-second on the titles list with six, only behind Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands. That tally of six titles remains a single-season record for a player aged 21 or under.

4. Baez’s mentor is Juan Martin del Potro –

Former world number three and 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro is from the same province in Argentina as Sebastian Baez.While the younger man was making his way as a professional, the two trained together for the first time in 2019 and del Potro has been mentoring Baez ever since.
