What Happened To Yadier Molina?

Yadier Molina went on the 10-day injured list on June 17, retroactive to June 16, and since then, he has missed 24 games. President of baseball operations John Mozeliak revealed last week that he worked out a plan to allow the catcher to rehab his inflamed right knee near his house in Puerto Rico. When he left, there was no firm timetable for a return for Yadier, who had been troubled all season by stiffness, swelling, and pain in his right knee.

Is Yadier Molina Injured?

Yes. Yadier was away from the team when he was put on the IL on June 16 with right knee inflammation. He has been rehabbing in Puerto Rico. On Tuesday, Oliver Marmol, the Cardinals manager, addressed Yadier’s status and plan for his return to the roster.

Oliver said, “Mo (John Mozeliak) connected with Yadi yesterday, they put a plan together where Yadi will rehab the last week of July and then join the big-league club at the beginning of August.”

Yadier Molina Injury

Yadier Molina seems to be improving from the inflammation in his right knee. His injury started in 2013. Then, Yadier had no structural damage, but an MRI indicated that there was too much fluid in the area.

He had pain and swelling in his right knee. Yadier was put on the 15-day injured list in 2013 because he sprained his right knee. Then, he found that his knee had drained extra fluid. He is still on the injured list in 2024.

Yadier Molina’s Return To Cardinals

Oliver Marmol said that Yadier would report to an unspecified rehab assignment the last week of July to return to St. Louis as a full-time catcher by the start of August. John Mozeliak talked with Yadier on Tuesday and discussed a plan for the catcher’s return to the team.

John said, “It’s encouraging because most people didn’t understand where and when we might see Yadi again. At least now we have some framework of what this looks like, and everybody [on the Cardinals] was excited to hear this. Overall, I look at this like an aggregate state, and the fact that he’s eying a return to play, that’s really encouraging.”
