Kazuki Takahashi is best known for being the creator of the insanely popular manga and trading card game Yu-Gi-Oh! He was found dead in southern Japan, the country’s Coast Guard said on Thursday. He was 60 years old when he passed away. His body was discovered floating near the coast of Nago on Wednesday. He had apparently been snorkelling near there and passed away from unknown causes.

Firefighters near the area found his body at 11:27 AM on Wednesday after a report from tourists. The coast guard spoke to the press and said that they were investigating the death. The news broke in late afternoon in Japan and there has been an outpouring of messages in Japan. Rhymestyle, a popular Youtuber wrote on Twitter saying, “RIP Kazuki Takahashi. Thank you for giving me the greatest childhood ever and something that I STILL play today”

Kazuki Takahashi is a Japanese Manga artist best known for being the creator of the series Yu-Gi-Oh. He started as a manga artist in the early 1980s and he did several small pieces for Weekly Shonen Sunday and Weekly Shonen Magazine. His first major work was Tokio no Taka, a one shot published in Weekly Shonen Jump. Takahashi considered many of his first pieces to be complete flops.
