What Happened To John McAfee 

John McAfee was a British-American computer programmer, businessman and two-time presidential candidate. In 1987, he wrote the first commercial anti-virus software and founded McAfee Associates. In 1994, he resigned and sold the remaining shares in his company. He became the companies most vocal critic a few years later and urged consumers to uninstall the software.

In October 2020, John McAfee was arrested in Spain over tax evasion charges in the US. Federal prosecutors from the United States brought both criminal and civil charges saying that he failed to file his income tax over a four year period. He was found dead from hanging in June 2021 in his prison cell in Barcelona. His wife did not believe that he had committed suicide and said the note left behind was a forgery.

Before he passed away John McAfee claimed he fathered around 47 children. In July 2021, that number increased to 49 to account for the children he did not know about. He told the Sun that his children were aged between 16 and 47. He said, “It’s very difficult to keep track of [them]. Almost all of them were illegitimate. [But] I keep in touch with every one… I take care of all of them financially.” He also has at least three step children and his widow has three children as well.
