Would Charles Oliveira have made weight had he shaved his hair?

Charles Oliveira missed weight prior to his main event bout against Justin Gaethje at UFC 274 last week – leading to him being stripped off his lightweight title

Despite a dominant win over Justin Gaethje at UFC 274, the lightweight title isn’t with Charles Oliveira – the most recent lightweight champion.

‘Do Bronx’ was stripped off his belt after missing weight at the UFC 274 weigh-ins by half a pound. After weighing in half a pound above the lightweight limit, the Brazilian was given an hour’s time to make weight. An hour later, the scale showed the exact same weight – 155.5 lbs.

This meant that the title could have gone only to Gaethje’s hands, had he beaten Oliveira – but he failed and the belt remained unclaimed.

There was a lot of controversy surrounding Oliveira’s weight miss. A number of MMA experts called for the use of a digital scale, and felt it was unfair to strip Oliveira of his title.

However, one nagging question remained – ‘Why didn’t Oliveira shave his head?’

The MMA community was divided on the fact that shaving his head would have helped the former LW champion to make weight.

Belal Muhammad, Aaron Simpson and Brian Kelleher weighed in recently on shaving one’s hair

Former UFC fighter Aaron Simpson replied to Aaron Bronsteter’s (of TSN) Tweet about how baffling it was for him to see Oliveira not shaving his head.

An unconvinced Simpson wrote: “The baffling part is you actually thinking this would help. Ever cut weight before?”

However, Brian Kelleher and Belal Muhammad thought different.

Kelleher tweeted: “Exactly , get the razor shave your nuts , armpits , head, shave it all see what happens.”

Belal Muhammad chimed in: “That’s what I said!!! At least try everythjng u can.”

A couple of fans brought out scientific evidence stating that shaving his head wouldn’t have made much of a difference:

Another fan, saw the funny side to it.

Judging by what Google appears to say, Oliveira probably wouldn’t have made weight, had he gone bald for the fight.
