He is a vocalist, guitarist, and synthesizer player. However, many Highly Suspect fans were dissatisfied with the band’s new direction, condemning Stevens for transforming the band into a hip hop group rather than keeping to the music that made them famous. In response, he lashed out at his critics, pushing them away — either they accept this new music, or they may turn around and call his critics fake fans. In later interviews, he continued to lash out at them but emphasized that the band had not abandoned rock music.
