The Crickets Drummer Jerry Allison Died Aged 82

The renowned American musician, The Crickets drummer Jerry Allison died aged 82 years on Monday 22 August. Allison was a key member of the band “The Crickets” formed in 1957, and co-writer of the hit songs “That’ll Be the Day” and “Peggy Sue”.

How did Jerry Allison Die?

Allison’s death was announced on the website official Buddy Holly Facebook page, with a statement paying tribute to him as a “musician ahead of his time”.

No cause of death was given, however, his age-related issues could be one reason. The post mentioned: ‘There’s more to be said and posted here in the coming days. For today, we think about his family and friends and wish JI to rest in peace.

Who was Buddy Holly’s first drummer?

Jerry Allison was sole accompaniment drummer to Buddy Holly’s vocals and guitar. Allison’s work allowed Holly to give some of his best guitar performances of his career.

He was also one of the first very important drummers to flourish in rock & roll and rockabilly music, as well the drummer for Buddy Holly & the Crickets band group.

After the death of Buddy Holly, it was Allison who retained the band name and The Crickets continued to perform and record with him.
