The Chi Series
Lena Waithe is the creator of the American drama television series The Chi, set in a South Side Chicago neighborhood. Rick Famuyiwa was the director of the pilot. On January 7, 2018, Showtime broadcasted its debut. Following the conclusion of the fourth season in August 2021, it was revealed that the show had been renewed for a 5th season, which debuted on June 24, 2024. At 9 p.m. ET tonight, Sunday, June 26, The Chi Season 5 debuts on Showtime.

Nia Jervier as Tierra
He engages Tierra (Nia Jervier), “the poised, polished and motivated god-niece of Douda (Curtiss Cook),” for a rebranding initiative. You might recognize Nia from the 2014 movie Dear White People or its Dear White People TV spinoff from 2017. Nia portrayed Kelsey, a “gold star” lesbian college student, in the latter project, which had four seasons aired on Netflix.
Carolyn Michelle Smith as Deja
Carolyn Jason Weaver’s character Shaad has a new love interest named Deja, played by Michelle Smith, who “helps him level up in more ways than one.” She portrayed Willa, Claire Underwood’s chief of staff, in the former (Robin Wright). She portrays Alan’s grandmother Agnes in the latter (Charlie Barnett).
L’lerret Jazelle as Journalist Fatima
L’lerrét Jazelle, a budding performer, plays Fatima in the fifth season of The Chi. The character is a “local journalist who wants the best for her area and is not afraid to hold up the politicians’ feet to the fire to obtain the truth,.”
Antonyah Allen as Simone
As Simone, “Kevin’s (Alex Hibbert) new classmate, a creative introvert who continuously challenges him and open up his mind to new experiences,” Antonyah Allen will make an appearance in Season 5.
