She was born in Moscow, Russia, on 7 June 1981. Her father, Sergei Kournikova, was born in 1961. He is a former Greco-Roman wrestling champion; he eventually earned a PhD and was a lecturer at the University of Physical Culture and Sport in Moscow. As of 2001, he was still a part-time martial arts teacher there. Her mother,  Alla, was born in 1963 and has been a 400-meter runner. Her younger half-brother, Allan, is a youth golf world champion who starred in the 2013 documentary movie The Short Game.

Career

Following her entrance into the United States, she became well-known on the tennis scene. She won the European Championships and the Italian Open Junior tournament.

In 1998, she broke into the WTA’s top 20 players for the first time and ranked No. 16. At the Australian Open, Kournikova failed in the third round to world No. 1 player Martina Hindi s. These two years are very successful years of her life.

In June 2010, Kournikova reunited with her doubles partner Martina Hingis to take part in competitive tennis for the first time in seven years in the Invitational Ladies Doubles event at Wimbledon. On 29 June 2010, they won against the British pair Samantha Smith and Anne Hobbs.

She started dating singer Enrique Iglesias in late 2001 after appearing in his music video for “Escape”. She has consistently declined to confirm or deny the status of her relationships.

 In June 2008, Iglesias was quoted by the Daily Star as having tied the knot with Kournikova the previous year. According to reports, they split in October 2013 but reconciled. 

The couple has sons and daughters named Nicholas and Lucy, brotherly twins born on 16 December 2017. On 30 January 2020, their third child, Mary, was born. It was noted in 2010 that Kournikova had become an American citizen.
