Steven Montez chose to redshirt his freshman year at Colorado in 2015. Following that, he appeared in nearly ten games and made three consecutive starts as a redshirt freshman in 2016. He spent the majority of his career as Sefo Liufau’s backup, but he did start three games due to injury. He completed 83 of 140 throws for 1,074 yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions. In 2017, he began the season as the quarterback. He completed 228 of 377 passes for 2,975 yards, 18 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in his first 12 appearances. In 2018, he returned as a starter.
Later that year, he returned for his senior season, excitedly participating in the football game. Montez was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Washington Football Team in 2020.
