He spent the majority of his career as Sefo Liufau’s backup, but he did start three games due to injury. He completed 83 of 140 throws for 1,074 yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions. In 2017, he began the season as the quarterback. He completed 228 of 377 passes for 2,975 yards, 18 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in his first 12 appearances. In 2018, he returned as a starter.

Later that year, he returned for his senior season, excitedly participating in the football game. Montez was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Washington Football Team in 2020. However, on September 5, 2020, he was rejected with the contract and quickly joined the practice squad the following day. Montez was signed to the active roster in the second week of December 2020 for the Week 15 and 16 games against the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers. With each game, he was demoted to the practice squad. He was signed to the active roster once more for the week 17 game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
