American actor Roger E. Mosley has passed away after suffering injuries in a car crash last week. He was 83 years old. The veteran was most popular for portraying the role of Theodore “T.C.” Calvin in all eight seasons of the original Magnum P.I. Read on to know what happened.

Mosley’s daughter Ch-A shared the updates about his tragic accident and passing. She confirmed the news of his death to the Hollywood Reported on Sunday, August 7, 2024. She also shared a tribute to her father on Facebook:

“We could never mourn such an amazing man. He would hate any crying done in his name. It is time to celebrate the legacy he left for us all.”

“I love you daddy. You loved me too. My heart is heavy but I am strong. I will care for mommy, your love of almost 60 years. You raised me well and she is in good hands. Rest easy.”

Roger E. Mosley died at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 7, 2024. He passed away as a result of critical injuries he sustained in a car accident in Lynwood, California on Thursday, August 4, 2024.

Mosley’s daughter Ch-A had been giving updates on her father’s condition on Facebook. On Saturday, she stated that he was “fighting hard” but on Sunday she confirmed that his father passed away and his body couldn’t hold up his soul anymore.

Roger E. Mosley Enjoyed a Successful Acting Career

Roger Earl Mosley was born on December 18, 1938, in Los Angeles, California. The American actor,

director, and writer was best known for his role as the helicopter pilot Theodore Calvin in CBS’ action crime series “Magnum P.I.” from 1980 to 1988.

Mosley was raised by his mother Eloise in the Imperial Courts Project in Los Angeles. He was also a wrestler and swimming coach in his early days and then got into acting at a local community arts school. He was spotted when a director from Universal visited there.

Mosley challenged the director on his comment about “ketchup sandwiches” and ended up getting an invite to visit Universal Studios. His first onscreen appearance came in 1971, and then he played Monk in 1973’s Terminal Island.

Mosley went on to have a very successful acting career working alongside legends like John Wayne, James Earl Jones, Burt Reynolds, and Tom Selleck. His most notable appearances apart from Magnum PI were in movies and series like Starsky and Hutch, Walker, Texas Ranger, Leadbelly, and A Thin Line Between Love & Hate.

Mosley played the role of Theodore Calvin a.k.a T.C. who was a helicopter pilot in Magnum PI. He worked all eight seasons of the original show created by Donald Bellisario and Glen A. Larson.

The American actor appeared in more than 150 episodes starring alongside Selleck in the popular adventure drama from 1980 until 1988. TC knew Selleck’s character from Vietnam and owned a helicopter company in Oahu, Hawaii, called Island Hoppers.

According to Mosley, the co-star Selleck recommended him for the role after the two worked together on Terminal Island in 1973. The producers were reportedly casting Gerald McRaney before deciding they required a person of color in the principal cast.

In the later years, Mosley didn’t act much and stepped away from films and TV shows around 2010. However, he guest starred in two episodes of the revived Magnum PI launched in 2018.

“We’ve lost another great actor & legend today. I enjoyed working with Roger so much. He really came thru for me when I produced my first play. He was the best,” wrote actor Richard Brooks.
