Phil Maton- Professional Career

The San Diego Padres selected Maton in the 20th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball draft. He made his professional debut that year with the Tri-City Dust Devils of the Short Season-A league. He appeared in 38 games for the three teams, going 5–3, posting a 1.74 ERA, and striking out 78 batters in 513 innings. Following the season, he joined the Peoria Stars of the Arizona Fall League. On June 11, 2017, he was called up by the Padres after Jake Esch was designated for assignment. Maton pitched in the big leagues for the rest of the season as a middle reliever. He finished the season with a 4.19 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 43 innings pitched across 46 games, resulting in a 4.19 ERA and 46 strikeouts.

Maton began the season with Triple-A El Paso, but when Wil Myers went down with an injury on April 4, he was quickly promoted to the majors.
