Update [Tue 30th Aug, 2024 14:15 BST]: We’ve got a name! We thought we might have to wait a bit longer to find out more about these cryptic tweets. But The Pokémon Company has delivered a second batch of photos today, along with confirmation that these photos are indeed teasing a brand new Pokémon — and its name is Grafaiai.

So far, we only have a name and these strange markings to go on. But, if we were betting people, we’d say that it sounds like this Pokémon is a little bit fond of graffiti and that it’s potentially an aye-aye — not the Super Monkey Ball Ai Ai, but a type of lemur. Grafaiai is a very fun name to say out loud, too. It’s a shame this Paldean photographer hasn’t been able to capture it in motion!

So, a spray painting lemur roaming the forests? We wonder what type or types it is and what it looks like. We suppose we’ll have to wait and see — maybe later this week!

“Remember the markings we shared yesterday? Well, the Paldean photographer has confirmed that these were made by a Pokémon called Grafaiai!

As you can see, it’s quite difficult to catch in action.

He left us with the promise to have an exciting revelation soon!”

Original article [Mon 29th Aug, 2024 16:30 BST]: The Pokémon Company has shared a very interesting tweet today which seems to hint toward something new coming to Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

After the reveal of Cyclizar last week, we’re always eagerly awaiting to see more brand new ‘mons or any tidbits about the Paldea region. There’s plenty we don’t know about Generation IX, such as the other two story paths, the evil team, and so on, but the company dropped a teaser on the official Twitter account.

The tweet consists of four “photos” taken by a Pladean resident. Each photo is in what looks like a forest and has various multicoloured paint marks on either trees or rocks.

“Hey Trainers! We’ve managed to obtain these photos of some strange markings taken by a photographer from Paldea.

They seem to be getting a lot of attention from the region’s citizens…

Any guesses what they could mean?”

Many think these photos may be hinting at a new Pokémon, while others have noted that these paintings could be a reference to Oma forest, a work of art created by a Basque sculptor by the name of Agustin Ibarrola. One notable Pokémon this could relate to is Smeargle, a dog Pokémon that uses its tail to paint, so might we be getting a new form for this Generation II Pokémon?

Of course, we know nothing at this point. But this reminds us of the cool stunt The Pokémon Company pulled for Sword & Shield, where it posted a 24-hour of Glimwood Tangle, which ended in the reveal of Galarian Ponyta. Perhaps it’s a sign that we’re about to get a brand new 24-hour stream in this unusual painted forest?

What do you think these tweets are referring to? Give us your thoughts and theories in the comments!
