Is Miami Grand Prix a street circuit?

Miami has made its debut in F1, hosting a Grand Prix for the first time with the main race scheduled to take place on Sunday night

The Miami Grand Prix race track is a street circuit but it’s only a temporary one. It will be dismantled after the GP. The circuit is located within the private Hard Rock stadium grounds. It does not use any public streets located around the stadium. A few weeks before the race weekend, the circuit and its safety features will be assembled. After the race weekend, the circuit will be dismantled. And the Hard Rock stadium facility will be converted back to normal.

The Miami GP circuit is 5.410 km in length covering a total of 57 laps. It is designed in a way that residents would not be disturbed by the race. The track is a permanent-style circuit with temporary infrastructures such as barriers and fences. They will be removed when there is no racing. The 19-corner circuit will see some high-speed battling. It will be mainly down the long run between T16 and T17 – a straight that forms one of the Miami International Autodrome’s three DRS Zones.

One element of the circuit that is not seen anywhere else on the Formula One calendar is the cable car system. It passes overhead at Turn 8 before running alongside the short straight into Turn 9 – a great view from the cabins!

Miami is F1’s 11th different F1 venue in the U.S.A
