Lil Jon was born Jonathan Mortimer Smith on the 27th of January 1971, in Atlanta, Georgia, the city where he spent the vast majority of his childhood. His father worked as an engineer at Lockheed Martin while his mother Carrie Smith was in the Army Reserves. While growing up in the middle-class neighborhood of Southwest Atlanta, he attended Frederick Douglass High School and completed his high school graduation in 1989.
