Funko Pop figurines come in wildly different sizes, from tiny miniatures to large, elaborate display pieces the size of your head. Some even have bases to attach them to. But you may have noticed a few Funko Pops labeled as “flocked.” What is a flocked Funko Pop? Here’s what it means and why you should take special care of them.

Grab the nearest Funko Pop and feel the texture of the collectible. It has a plastic feel, right? A flocked Funko Pop, on the other hand, has a fabric layer on select areas of the figurine. These days you hardly see flocked toys, but Funko Pop has a number of figurines with this added characteristic.
The fabric resembles a fine fur, almost like suede. The texture is mostly used for animal-related Funko Pops. Here are a few examples:
- Crash (Crash Bandicoot)
- Te Fiti (Moana)
- Rocket Racoon (Marvel)
- Sox (Lightyear)
- Snowball (Rick & Morty)
Of course, the examples listed above also have non-flocked variants, too. If you are considering purchasing a flocked Funko Pop, be sure to display it in an area that keeps it away from dirt and damage.
How to Take Care of Flocked Funko Pops
If you’re an avid Funko Pop collector (or even a passing interest), there’s nothing worse than your figurines getting marked. It may have been accidental, maybe you dropped it, or you were moving it and received a bit of damage along the way. Flocked Funko Pops are even worse.
Because the fabric is so fine, if it gets a smudge from dirt or a stain, what you do not want to do is try to scrub it off. That’s a quick way to spread the dirt and make it worse. Outside of keeping flocked Funko Pops in their boxes, ideally, a Tide Pen works wonders. It uses hydrogen peroxide to clean the stain; more importantly, it’s a gentle solution that won’t rub off the fabric, nor does it need water to activate. And if you like having it out of the box, an air compressor can quickly remove dust.
