Find out the history and lore of the House Blackfyre.

If you are a longtime fan of the Game of Thrones book series, you may have read about the infamous House Blackfyre. But, even though they are a crucial part of the lore, the show didn’t have enough time to establish its storyline. So, who is House Blackfyre, and how do they connect to Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon?

House Blackfyre in Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon Explained

While looking over the trailer of Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon, you can spot the mighty sword called “Blackfyre” in the hands of King Viserys Targaryen. The history of this weapon predates back to when Aegon the Conqueror wielded it in several battles with the incredible power of its Valyrian steel.

After the sword was passed down to the next generation, it ended up in the hands of Daemon Waters (also known as Daemon Blackfyre), a bastard son of Daena and Aegon IV Targaryen. Keep in mind that this character is not the same as Daemon Targaryen in Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon since these are two entirely different people.

Once Daemon receives the weapon from his father, many believe he will become heir to Aegon, which angers Daeron II Targaryen and causes the later rebellions. Shortly after this, Daemon develops House Blackfyre, a name that is an homage to the great sword.

In his quest for power, Daemon starts to rebel against the Targaryens because he thinks he is the rightful heir, mainly because his father gave him Blackfyre. This motivation would eventually lead to the first Blackfyre Rebellion, where Daeron and Daemon fought against each other.

Unfortunately, the madness never stopped, and this act of war resulted in four more battles that may have caused the downfall of the Targaryen line.

How Does House Blackfyre Connect to Game of Thrones: House of Dragon?

According to the timeline of events, Game of Thrones: House of Dragon happens before the Blackfyre rebellions. In addition, some have claimed that the show’s civil war is one of the reasons why Daemon defies his family. So, the series could potentially delve more into House Blackfyre in the future.

Now that you know who House Blackfyre is in Game of Thrones: House of Dragon, you can see if this Targaryen branch finally makes its appearance in the franchise.
