Josh Hazlewood is an Australian professional cricketer who has represented his country in all 3 formats of the sport (Tests, ODIs, and T20Is), as a frontline pace bowler. He was an integral member of the Australian squads that had won the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup and the 2021 ICC World T20, the 5th and 1st time, respectively, that Australia had achieved these feats. Before breaking into the senior national team in June 2010, he had participated in the 2008 and 2010 editions of the Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup. Australia had stood 6th in 2008 and had won their 3rd title in 2010. In the Australian domestic circuit, he has played for his home state of New South Wales (2008-09–Present) across all 3 formats. In franchise-based T20 leagues, he has turned out for the Sydney Sixers (2011-12–2013-14, 2019-20) in the BBL (Big Bash League); and the Chennai Super Kings (2020–2021), and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (2024-Present) in the IPL (Indian Premier League).

  1. Josh had been selected to represent his home state of New South Wales when he was just 17 years old, making him the youngest pace bowler to represent the state. He was also the youngest member of Australia’s squad at the 2008 Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup.
  2. In the 2010 edition of the Under-19 ICC Cricket World Cup, he was Australia’s best bowler in the quarter-final match against New Zealand (2/24), the semi-final match against Sri Lanka (4/26), and the final match against Pakistan (4/30). He was also named the ‘Player of the Match’ in the final.
  3. In the quarter-final match of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, against Pakistan, he had produced a ‘Player of the Match’ performance with figures that read 4/35.
  4. In the inaugural day/night test match, that was played from November 27, 2015, to December 1, 2015, in Adelaide, between Australia and New Zealand, Josh had become the first player to take a wicket in a day/night test match when he had dismissed Martin Guptill. He had produced figures of 3/66 and 6/70 in the match, the latter making him the first bowler to pick up a 5-wicket haul in a day/night test match. He was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his performance.
  5. In Australia’s opening match of the 2021 ICC World T20, against South Africa, he was named the ‘Player of the Match’ for his spell of 2/19 in 4 overs. He was also Australia’s best bowler in their final group stage match against the West Indies (4/39) and the final match against New Zealand (3/16). He had finished the tournament as the joint-4th highest wicket-taker with 11 wickets in 7 games.
