Jon Anik leads the charge for use of digital scale after Oliveira weight miss

Charles Oliveira couldn’t make the stipulated 155lbs ahead of his title clash against Justin Gaethje at UFC 274, not before a lot of commotion from the MMA community – Jon Anik and Ben Askren led the charge for the use of a digital scale

Charles Oliveira missed weight at the UFC 274 weigh-ins by half a pound, which saw his lightweight title being stripped off. He will now fight Justin Gaethje in the main event sans a promise of the belt despite him scripting a victory.

After having initially missed weight, Oliveira was given an hour’s time to make weight. A confident Oliveira walked in the second time, only to miss weight by the exact same 0.5 lbs.

It later came to light that Oliveira had made weight on the scale backstage.

The use of a digital scale was stressed by the MMA community after Oliveira’s weigh-in mishap. It is believed that ‘Do Bronx’ had weighed in on a digital scale before stepping on the calibrated weighing machine.

Jon Anik motions for a digital scale

UFC commentator Jon Anik was quick to echo his thoughts on the same. He tweeted: “Motion for a digital scale. #UFC274.”

Former UFC welterweight Ben Askren chimed in on the same. Calling the calibrated weighing scales sh***, Askren wrote:

“What did Olivera weigh on the digital that they have backstage? Those are way more reliable than the shitty slide scales.

He continued: “If he was 155 on an official @ufc digital scale backstage(yes they have one in the staging room) I say count it.”
