Is She-Hulk Related to The Hulk?

Guides

A guide that explains how She-Hulk is related to the Hulk.

Marvel as a whole has quite the cast of characters, spanning decades of comics. Arguably the most interesting aspect of Marvel’s characters are the various family trees. You may see the same kind of power appear in multiple people which, more often than not, tends to be a genetic factor. Other times it’s just a coincidence. That begs the question: Are She-Hulk and the Hulk’s powers a coincidence? Or is She-Hulk related to the Hulk?

Yes, She-Hulk is related to the Hulk; more specifically, Jennifer Walters and Bruce Banner are cousins. Bruce Banner’s father, Brian Banner, is Jennifer Walters’ uncle. Jennifer Walter’s mother, Elain Banner-Walters, is Brian Banner’s sister.

Despite being cousins, She-Hulk and the Hulk are often described as being closer to siblings. In one universe, Bruce Banner actually saves Jennifer Walkers’ life using his blood for a blood transfusion. Jennifer had recently been wounded by a bullet, and it just so happened Bruce and her shared the same blood-type. Jennifer’s exposure to Bruce’s blood is what turns her into She-Hulk.

While it’s wildly different in the She-Hulk Disney+ series, the end result is ultimately the same. The show even expands on the topic, pointing out that Jennifer had the capacity to become She-Hulk due to their shared genetics. All she needed was a dose of gamma radiation to essentially activate it. And where does she get it? Bruce Banner’s blood leaking into her open wound.
