Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed is out now, but some might be left wondering if it’s a remake or not. In fact, a glance at the official website doesn’t explicitly say what the game is one way or the other. Believe it or not, the answer is a little complicated. Read on to learn whether this sequel is a remake or re-release.

Is Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed a Remake?

Yes — and no, in some sense. It is officially a remake developed by Black Forest Games as opposed to the original developer, Pandemic Studios. But, few things were changed from the official release. For starters, the game was rebuilt from the ground-up in Unreal Engine 4. To some, that would definitively answer the question, but there are other caveats. In the beginning of the game, we see the following disclaimer:

“Humans of planet Earth, be advised: While the visual experience has been upgraded, the content and historical record of the original invasion of the Furons remains a near-identical clone. The Furon linguistic and cultural experience remains unaltered. The story, words, and images contained within may be shocking to the modern human brain!”

So, while there are some improvements in the visual aesthetic and in certain gameplay elements, it would seem the writing and story have been left unchanged. It should be noted that the game initially released in 2006, so certain players may find the humor has aged like milk. To each their own, however! That said, it is accurate to call Destroy All Humans 2: Reprobed a remake in the truest sense of the word. If you played the original release and want to take a trip down memory lane, Reprobed is the game for you.
