Here’s how to watch Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul in chronological order.

Now that Better Call Saul has officially come to an end, you might’ve realized that there’s a bit of a void left in your life with nothing to fill it. So what do you do? Well, you rewatch the entirety of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul in chronological order of course.
This isn’t quite as simple as it sounds, though, so we’re here to break them down for you.
Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul Episodes in Chronological Order
Considering that most of the events outside of the Gene scenes in Better Call Saul take place before Breaking Bad, it would make sense that you should watch the prequel series first before moving on to Breaking Bad. However, the last few episodes of Better Call Saul do spoil the events of the other series, so you’ll need to take a break during the last season to get caught up.
Here’s the order:
- Better Call Saul Season 1
- Better Call Saul Season 2
- Better Call Saul Season 3
- Better Call Saul Season 4
- Better Call Saul Season 5
- Better Call Saul Season 6, Up to Episode 9
- Breaking Bad Seasons 1-5
- Better Call Saul Season 6, Episodes 10-13
Watching all the seasons and episodes in this order will make the most sense if you want to see the entire story in chronological order. And if you want to throw in the El Camino movie with Jesse, you can do that at the end of Breaking Bad season 5, or at the end of Better Call Saul season 6. Jesse’s story is very much a standalone affair, and it works well whether you watch it after Breaking Bad or Better Call Saul.
If you want to get really serious about watching the entire thing in chronological order, however, right down to each individual scene and flashback and both series, Reddit user milestogo171 has done an insane breakdown of every scene in the two series and El Camino. Watching the series in this order would be incredibly tedious, however, requiring you to jump between different episodes from different seasons, and skipping between different scenes as well.
We don’t recommend watching the show in this way, as the flashbacks and cuts to future events in each episode are placed in there for specific reasons, and they help the entire series flow properly. So to keep things simple, just watch 90% of Better Call Saul first, then Breaking Bad, then finish up Better Call Saul.
Watching in Release Order
To make things even more straightforward, you could just watch both series in release order instead. In this scenario, you would just watch the entirety of Breaking Bad, then El Camino, then Better Call Saul.
There’s a lot to appreciate about both series by watching them in this order as well, as you’ll undoubtedly start to view the events of Breaking Bad in different ways as they get re-contextualized.
