The Oculus Quest 2 (or the Meta Quest 2, if you prefer) is a lovely piece of virtual reality hardware. It’s got great fidelity, it’s user-friendly, and it doesn’t require you to take out a mortgage to get one. The only question is how long it needs to juice up before you can use it. So, how long does it take to charge the Oculus Quest 2?

How Long Does it Take to Charge the Oculus Quest 2?

Whether you’re using the Quest 2’s included USB-C charging cable or the optional headset and controller charging dock, it generally takes around 2.5 hours of sustained charging to get its battery up to max capacity. Once you’ve got a full charge, you can usually get about 2 hours of constant use before needing to charge again if you’re playing games, or up to 3 hours if you’re just watching stuff.

If you have the Oculus App on your phone and it’s paired to your headset, you can check it to determine how far along the charge is. Meta recommends unplugging the headset once it’s finished charging so as not to overcharge the battery. Try to charge the headset during the day instead of overnight so you can keep an eye on its progress. Also, if you’re not using your headset, you should power it down completely instead of just putting it to sleep to preserve the charge, not to mention reduce general wear and tear on the battery.

Incidentally, if you have the Quest 2’s Elite Strap accessory, which comes with a battery pack, that’ll roughly double the battery’s max capacity. Of course, that means it’ll take about twice as long to charge completely, but you’ll at least get that same amount of usage time.
