Riddick Parker played for the Seahawks, Patriots, and Ravens

Riddick Thurston Parker Jr. was born on November 20, 1972, in Emporia, Virginia. He attended Southampton High School in nearby Courtland, Virginia. He played for the football team of the school and received all-state honors in 1989.

Parker then studied history and communications at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hills and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1994. He played football all four years for the North Carolina Tar Heels.

In the 1995 NFL Draft, Parker went undrafted. He signed as a rookie free agent with San Diego Chargers but was waived prior to the start of the season. He then played for Rhein Fire of NFL Europe for the 1996 season.

In the same year, he returned and signed with the Seattle Seahawks in July. He went on to play for the Seahawks, New England Patriots, and Baltimore Ravens from 1997 to 2003. Parker was a member of the 2001’s Super Bowl-winning Patriots team.

Parker became an Education Pioneer later

After retiring from football, Parker turned into an educationalist. He started working for Baltimore City Public School as an education consultant. He then joined Armstrong High School as an associate principal.

Parker used his experience playing in the field for his school leadership roles. “Game day is a testing day. So, when we get down to the nine-week assessments, we get down to SOL (standards of learning) assessments; to us, that’s our Super Bowl,” he once said in an interview.

“Teaching is coaching. You’re looking at when you’re doing wrong, what you can improve upon, and then putting together a game plan in place to make sure that happens,” he added.

After that, he joined the George Wythe High School as principal and was serving there until his untimely demise.
