The Pokémon Company has once again put all other brands to shame with its demonstration of how to mark a store’s grand opening. Japan’s newest Pokémon Center has opened today in Okinawa, Japan, and alongside some official images of the fresh store, the company has also released an original animation, ‘Travelling Gurdy‘, to mark the occasion.

If you have watched the video below, you might find yourself dabbing a small tear from your eye — join the club! The two-minute short shows an isolated Growlithe travelling through various regions in search of his friends. Realised in a watercolour 2D style, the animation appears different to the Pokémon anime that we have come to expect, but it is all the more heartwarming because of it.

One Twitter user, @MarvicaFii, has already been lucky enough to visit the new Pokémon Center and has documented the full experience on their feed. We have linked some of our favourite snaps below, but there is way more in store so be sure to head over to @MarvicaFii’s page to get the full experience of their visit.

Those lucky enough to visit this Pokémon Center will be greeted by that giant Arcanine and Pikachu plush — now if that isn’t enough of an excuse to go, we don’t know what is. Road trip to Japan, anyone?
