Allen continued his education at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. He was chosen in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft. Grayson Allen- Professional Career
Allen began his basketball career at Providence School in Jacksonville, where he was coached by Jim Martin. With a 90-10 record, he led the team to the state championship. He won a silver medal at the 2013 Nike Global Challenge. Allen averaged 22.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.2 assists as a senior. He was a MaxPreps fifth-team All-American, as well as a participant in the 2014 McDonald’s All-American Game and the 2014 Jordan Brand Classic.
As a freshman, Allen appeared in 35 games for the Duke Blue Devils, averaging 4.4 points per game. At the end of the season, he was named to the All-ACC Academic Team. As a sophomore, he improved his averages to 21.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Duke won the 2015 NCAA championship with a 68-63 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers. Allen was named to the 2016 All-ACC First Team. He was also named to the AP and NABC’s Third Team All-American teams, as well as the Sporting News’ Second Team All-American team.
NBA
Allen was selected by the Utah Jazz with the 21st overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. On July 6, 2019, the Memphis Grizzlies announced Allen’s acquisition from the Jazz. On July 11, 2019, Allen was ejected from an NBA Summer League game between the Memphis Grizzlies and the Boston Celtics after committing back-to-back flagrant fouls that commentators referred to as “cheap shots.”
On August 5, 2020, Allen had 20 points, a career-high six 3-pointers, two rebounds, and one assist in 26 minutes of action against the Utah Jazz.
On December 16, 2020, Memphis announced that they had exercised their team option on Allen for the 2021–2024 seasons.
On August 6, 2021, the Grizzlies traded Allen to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Sam Merrill and two future second-round draft picks. “Grayson is a gifted point guard,” said the Bucks’ general manager, Jon Horst. We’re excited to have him here because of his three-point shooting, intensity, tenacity, and basketball IQ.” On October 18, Allen agreed to a multi-year contract extension with the Bucks.
Controversy
Grayson Allen, who was acquired from the Memphis Grizzlies in a trade earlier this summer, has agreed to a two-year, $20 million rookie contract with the Milwaukee Bucks. Allen is expected to start in the backcourt alongside Jrue Holiday until Donte DiVincenzo returns from injury. However, DiVincenzo’s return to the starting lineup was far from certain, and now that Allen has signed the contract, he may be even more likely to sit.
Members of the 2018 draft class, which includes both Allen and DiVincenzo, had until Tuesday to sign a contract extension or become restricted free agents in the summer. While the situation with DiVincenzo is far more complicated, the Bucks and DiVincenzo were able to reach an agreement on a two-year, $20 million contract that will begin in the 2024-23 season.
