Bianca Andreescu took a break from the WTA tour to volunteer at a domestic violence centre
Bianca Andreescu volunteered at a domestic violence centre and a hospital for sick kids during her break from the WTA tour. Andreescu shared her experiences from her tenure as a volunteer at the institutions. The Canadian star is presently playing at the Madrid Open in Spain. She is scheduled to play against Danielle Collins in the Round of 32 tomorrow.
Speaking on her experience while working as a volunteer, Andreescu said, “I volunteered at a women’s domestic violence shelter. I also volunteered at a SickKids Hospital. I did some videos for some patients that were struggling a lot physically. Just to see the look on their face like, you know, they did reaction videos, just makes my whole day. So I’m very grateful for that experience.”
She further added, “I actually spoke to a couple of women and their stories of what they went through, and if I go into detail I’m going to cry, because it’s like the saddest thing ever. There is this one lady who was basically running away from her husband that wanted to kill her, like that kind of stuff. It’s just absurd things. I can’t believe any human being has to go through that.”

22-time Grand Slam winner, Pam Shriver recently revealed that during her playing career, she was involved in an ‘inappropriate and damaging’ relationship with her Australian coach, Don Candy. Shriver said that the pair’s relationship started when she was 17 and Candy was 50. The relationship ended five years later in 1984. “Don never abused me sexually but I would say there was emotional abuse”, said the former World No.1.
Shriver advised youngsters to main clear boundaries between personal and professional relationships. “For any player or athlete who might be reading this, I want to emphasise the downsides of blurring personal and professional boundaries”, she said.
Shriver further added, “The point has to be made very clearly: these kinds of relationships are not appropriate, and there will be consequences for those who cross the line.”
