Top seed Novak Djokovic is set to face Andy Murray in the Round of 16 of the Madrid Open
Novak Djokovic would aim to gain some positive momentum going forward as he steps onto the court to face Andy Murray. Djokovic hasn’t been in good touch so far this year but had no problems brushing aside Gael Monfils 6-3,6-2 in the previous round. The World No.1 would now look to carry forward the same form going into the match against Murray.
Andy Murray meanwhile, has been in sublime touch in Madrid. The former World No.1 started his campaign with a convincing straight-set win against former World No.3 Dominic Thiem. He followed up the win with an incredible victory in three sets against the 14th seed Dennis Shapovalov to set up a clash against Djokovic.
Djokovic and Murray are veterans on the ATP tour and have faced each other a total of 36 times in the past. Djokovic comprehensively leads 25-11 on the head to head. Their latest meeting came way back in 2017. The Serbian won a three-set thriller on that occasion in Doha. When it comes to tomorrow’s clash in Madrid, we are predicting a straight-sets win for Novak Djokovic.

Novak Djokovic is struggling to find form in 2024
Novak Djokovic is struggling to find his touch and has had a very underwhelming 2024 so far. The Serbian has missed multiple top-rated tournaments this year due to his vaccination status which even saw him lose his No.1 spot to Daniil Medvedev for a brief period. However, he is back as the World No.1 but has failed to do justice to his ranking in the tournaments he played. Earlier this year, Djokovic participated in the Dubai Tennis Championships as the top seed but lost in the quarter-finals to unseeded Jan Vesely.
The Serbian was then out of action from the ATP tour for two months after he was not allowed to participate in the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Open for not being vaccinated against Covid-19. Playing after a gap of two months, Djokovic failed to find his rhythm in the Monte Carlo Masters and suffered a shock exit after a loss in his very first match against the unseeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
Djokovic made it to the finals of the Serbia Open but lost on home turf to Andrey Rublev. The World No.1 would be desperate to make it count in Madrid before heading towards the all important Roland Garros, later this month.
