Though Humble Bundle and Jacob Dzwinel’s Midnight Fight Express does a superb job at its execution of satisfying gameplay, there is more to love about this game aside from its mechanics. The story is also really great, with characters to enjoy and gags to laugh at. The game also does a great job of stringing pop culture, movies, and even other video games into its bizarre story.

Best Easter Eggs in Midnight Fight Express
Over its duration, Midnight Fight Express sneaks in Easter Eggs at a breakneck pace. From one-off references, enemies, levels, or even full chapters, once Midnight Fight Express settles on a joke, it commits to it fully. There are many great Easter Eggs to discover in Midnight Fight Express, but we’ve settled on 5 of the best that the game throws players’ way. So, let’s talk about them!
The Warriors
Starting our list off is a nice little throwaway line and visual gag that happens near the middle point of the game. As your character makes his way to an overrun gas station, he’s surrounded by goons to fight. Once you serve up justice to the attacking street gang, your pal Droney says the line”Ho boy- It’s The Warriors. They’ve come out to play with human-freakin’-lives.”. The gang in question is not only called The Warriors in this game, but the line “come out to play” is a direct wink to the 1979 film as it’s said by one of The Warriors’ rival gangs.
Community
An Easter Egg that can be spotted in the game’s trailers leading up to its release featured The Pillowman; a character completely wrapped in pillows with mallet-like pillows for hands. This character is a direct homage to the iconic television series, Community. The reference comes from the season 3 episode, Pillows and Blankets, wherein Chevy Chase’s character Pierce, dons the same costume. Not only does his suit make an appearance, but there’s an entire level dedicated to a pillow fight which too is directly inspired by that episode as well.
Chef
if you’re someone who’s been into meme culture in the past 5 or so years, then you’ve definitely heard the Chef meme. Typically said as “my name is Chef”, this meme has grown into somewhat as a trope at this point. Though Midnight Fight Express doubles down on it by not only referencing the meme with one of its bosses in a throw-away line, no, it actually names the boss directly after the man who the meme is based on, Jon Favreau. Actor, director, and chef, Mr. Faveau’s film Chef is what started it all. And now, he’s been made into a flamethrower-wielding boss in Midnight Fight Express that harvests human organs. Yikes.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest
In the earlier parts of Midnight Fight Express, you are dropped into what seems like a pirate fever dream. As you make your way across the docks of town, you’re surrounded by a complete level of pirates that harvest organs. But what part specifically are some after? Hearts of course! This piratey Easter Egg is directly inspired by the classic Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, where the characters are all on the hunt for the beating heart of Davy Jones. It’s quite a nice Easter Egg as most folks, unless they’re die-hard fans, would probably totally miss the joke and references here.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
The last major Easter Egg to love in Midnight Fight Express is a level that is basically a shot-for-shot remake of the “No Russian” level from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. With characters donning suits with bullet-proof vests and Scar-L rifles, as well as lines being altered yet still similar to the originals, this whole airport level is a bloody and traumatic sight that players of the original will never forget.
