Where Is The Cast Of Amen Now?

Sherman Hemsley as Deacon Ernest Frye

After the success of “Amen,” Mr. Hemsley, who was already well-known for shows like “All in the Family” and “The Jeffersons,” made appearances in TV shows, films, and even produced an album. Martin, The Wayans Brothers, Sister, Sister, Family Matters, and Tyler Perry’s House of Payne are just a few of the programs he appeared in. Additionally, he contributed his distinctive voice to live-action and animated puppet productions of “Dinosaurs,” “The Magic School Bus,” and “Family Guy.” Despite being a very private and shy person, he took part in the final season of the program, “The Surreal Life.” He, unfortunately, passed away in July 2012. He was not buried until several months after his passing due to disputes over his fortune, which further contributed to suspicions about his personal life.

Anna Maria Horsford as Thelma Frye

Thelma, the only child of Deacon Frye, was head over heels in love with Reverend Reuben. Actress Anna Maria Horsford had a very lengthy career. She has been performing since she was four. She continued acting after “Amen,” as all working performers do. She has been in shows like Friday, “New Girl,” “Reed Between the Lines,” “Rhythm and Blues,” “Set it Off,” “The Wayans Brothers,” “The District,” and “The Shield.” A Madea’s Family Christmas, the most recent film she appeared in, was released in 2013.

Clifton Davis as Reverend Reuben Gregory

For his part in “That’s My Mama,” Clifton Davis was already well-known, and he was also a seasoned songwriter. “Never Can Say Goodbye” by the Jackson 5 was written by him. Before he encountered God, Clifton’s life consisted of a combination of sex and drug abuse. He was also a successful Broadway performer and was even nominated for a Tony. His part in “Amen” was therefore appropriate for him. He has since worked as an actor in “Living Single,” “Sparks,” “American Dream,” and “Half and Half” in addition to “Amen.” He has put out a number of albums that were well received.

Jester Hairston as Rolly Forbes

The loyal, old churchgoer Rolly Forbes, played by Jester Hairston, spoke sense into the absolute chaos of Deacon Frye’s plots and Reverend Reuben’s discipline. Since earning his degree from Julliard in the late 1920s, Jester Hairston has had a successful career. He returned to “Amen,” reunited with Clifton Davis from “That’s My Momma,” and was already a dominant figure in the music, radio, music, and tv industries. His final roles were in Being John Malkovich and a “Family Matters” episode after “Amen.” He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and passed away in 2000 at the age of 98 from natural causes.
