For example, Brienne of Tarth names her Valyrian steel sword, given to her by Jaime Lannister, “Oathkeeper” after swearing an oath to find and protect Sansa Stark. Another sword with an interesting history is Dark Sister. But what is Dark Sister in House of the Dragon?
What Is Dark Sister in House of the Dragon?
Dark Sister is a rare Valyrian steel longsword. Aside from Blackfyre, Dark Sister is best known as an heirloom of House Targaryen. In fact, Dark Sister has been wielded by many Targaryens in the past, even before Aegon’s Conquest, making the sword well over 100 years old.
One of the most notable owners of Dark Sister was Visenya Targaryen herself, sister to Aegon Targaryen, the Conqueror of Westeros. She wielded Dark Sister so effectively, it was essentially the reason the Kingsguard were founded.
In House of the Dragon, Dark Sister is in the hands of Daemon Targaryen (portrayed by Matt Smith), and made an appearance several times throughout the first episode of the first season.
However, by the time the War of the Five Kings begins, Dark Sister vanishes. It was last seen in the hands of Brynden Rivers, a Great Bastard of King Aegon IV Targaryen. For those who’ve watched the HBO series Game of Thrones, this character is better known now as the “Three-Eyed Raven.”
