About Asianet (TV Channel)

Asianet is the Malayalam language Indian general entertainment pay television channel operated by Asianet Star Communications. Disney Star owns Asianet and its sister channels. The key person of the Asianet television channel is K. Madhavan, Country Manager & President, Managing Director of Asianet. Its headquarters is located in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. Now, Asianet became the first entire HD television channel in Malayalam. Dr Raji Menon founded the channel, which launched on 30 August 1993. Asianet’s sister channels are Asianet Plus and Asianet Movies. This channel also hosts Asianet Film Awards and Asianet Television Awards to recognise the talents of the Malayalam Film and Television industries. Even Asianet had the opportunity to release a Malayalam movie, Kilometers and Kilometers, directly through the channel on 30 August 2020 on the occasion of the Onam festival; this was due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The coverage and the viewership of the TV channel are rated as the Top one by BARC ratings. Currently, the Asianet channel operates in 60 countries such as the Indian sub-continent, China, South East Asia, the Middle East, Europe, the United States, and the lower half of the Soviet Union. In 2008, Star India brought a 51% stake in the Asianet channel, but it took full ownership in 2014.
