1. D.B. Nihalsinghe, a renowned filmmaker and a family friend of her parents, had cast Anarkali in her first-ever TV commercial, for Clogard toothpaste, when she was just 2 years old.
2. Her grandmother, Effie Samarakkody, was the former chairperson of the Urban Council in Nawalapitiya, a town in Kandy District, Sri Lanka. She was the first woman in Sri Lanka to head an Urban Council.
3. Inspired by the political journey of her grandparents, she had delved into politics at a very young age. When she was still a teenager, she had started campaigning for Mahinda Rajapaksa in the 2004 Presidential campaign which was eventually successful.
4. In 2004, she had become the youngest actress in the history of Sri Lankan cinema to have won the ‘Sarasaviya Most Popular Actress Award’, presented annually by the weekly Sarasaviya newspaper in collaboration with the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited at the Sarasaviya Awards Festival.
5. In 2009, at the height of her success in the entertainment industry, she had contested an election for the Galle District at the 2009 Southern Provincial Council Election. In October 2009, she had been elected to the council. She was the only female on the 54-member council and the youngest woman in Sri Lanka’s history to hold such a position. She had served out a full term of 5 years.
6. She has also written several articles for Daily News, the national newspaper of Sri Lanka. She had followed this up with I’m Loving it with Anarkalli, a column aimed at a younger audience in the Sunday Observer’s supplement, Youth Observer Magazine.
7. In 2016, she had launched a fashion line called Elegance by Anarkalli.
