W Series partners with Sky Sports for three-year broadcast deal

Earlier on Tuesday, W Series announced that it struck a multi-year deal with Sky Sports to broadcast live races of the all-female Championship.

The W Series, an all-female racing championship, skyrocketed in popularity since its maiden season in 2019. Now, itโ€™s on course to broadcast races on one of the biggest sports platforms in the world.

After the 2020 W Series campaign was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Championship returned the following year and linked up with Formula 1 for the first time.

On Tuesday, Sky Sports and W Series announced a multiyear broadcast partnership that will showcase its races on the sports channel starting with coverage from the 2024 season. The Sky deal runs until the end of W Seriesโ€™ fifth on-track season in 2024.

The subscription for this year will broadcast 10 W Series races across eight Formula 1 Grand Prix weekendsย including the qualifying events. The season for the women drivers will begin with a double-header in Miami, USA, on May 6-8.

Only recently, the W Series confirmed its full 18-driver grid for the 2024 season, with reigning double-champion Jamie Chadwick joining Caitlyn Jennerโ€™s new team, Jenner Racing. She will be joined on the track by 2021 runner-up Alice Powell, Aston Martin F1 driver ambassador Jess Hawkins, and 2019 runner-up Beitske Visser.

A total of five new drivers will take part in the 2024 season, including Juju Noda, the daughter of 1990s Formula 1 driver Hideki Noda, who is the youngest driver to take part at the age of 16.
